Ismael Díaz y su Orquesta: “En Acapulco” 1962

To begin discussing this musical gem, it’s important to remember that musician Ismael Díaz, with his big band, crafted a new sound he called Tepo. Perhaps inspired by other maestros who developed enduring styles of their own, Díaz’s creation didn’t gain much traction. However, his work reflects a powerful sound characteristic of the orchestras based in Mexico during that era.

This is an EP—a format highly valued today among music collectors, who are often willing to pay a significant amount for a rare piece like this one. The record contains four tracks from the album Luna de Miel en Acapulco. Among them, we especially recommend Rapsodia Húngara—a truly dramatic journey told through the strength and sonority of a powerful big band.
